Marine Technical Supply for Vessels at U.S. Ports

Alpha Ship Supplies sources marine technical stores, electrical consumables, maintenance equipment, and repair consumables for vessels calling at U.S. ports. Technical requisitions are reviewed line by line before quotation, so the engine room and deck department receive the items they specified.

What Technical Supply Covers

Technical supply sits between routine deck and engine stores and OEM spare parts. It covers the consumables, tools, and equipment that keep machinery and systems running between dry dockings:

  • Engine-room consumables such as filters, gaskets, packing, O-rings, jointing sheet, sealants, and lubricants
  • Electrical consumables including cable, glands, terminals, lamps, fuses, breakers, and batteries
  • Hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, and workshop equipment
  • Welding and cutting consumables
  • Pipe, hose, fittings, flanges, and fasteners
  • Chemicals for boiler, cooling-water, and cleaning applications, supplied with safety data sheets
  • Repair consumables for mechanical and structural maintenance on board

Requisitions Built on IMPA, ISSA, and OEM References

Most technical requisitions arrive from the chief engineer or the technical superintendent, often exported from a planned maintenance or purchasing system. Catalogue codes matter: an IMPA or ISSA reference identifies a specific item and pack size, which removes most of the guesswork from descriptions such as "gasket sheet" or "cable 3-core".

Where an item is tied to a particular machine, we ask for the maker, model, serial number, and OEM part number. If the reference does not match the description, or two lines appear to conflict, we raise the question before quoting rather than after delivery. That step is often the difference between a usable delivery and a return.

For OEM machinery spares, see our marine spare parts supply page.

Electrical Consumables and Equipment

Electrical requisitions should state voltage, current rating, number of cores and cross-section for cable, IP rating for fittings, and any marine type-approval requirement the vessel or class society specifies. Lamps and fittings are best requested with the original part number or a photo of the existing item.

Maintenance Equipment and Repair Consumables

Ships carry out much of their own maintenance between port calls. Typical orders include grinding discs, wire brushes, welding rods and wire, cutting gas consumables, abrasive products, epoxy repair compounds, pipe repair kits, and rust treatment products. For hazardous materials, we provide safety data sheets and arrange packing and delivery in line with the terminal's rules.

Technical Requisition Support

If the vessel's list is incomplete, we work with the chief engineer, superintendent, or purchasing office to close the gaps: nameplate photos, drawings, previous order references, or a call with the engineer on board. When an item cannot reach the vessel before departure, we say so early and help plan supply at the next suitable U.S. port.

Frequently Asked Questions

What information do you need for a technical requisition?

Item descriptions with quantities and units, IMPA or ISSA codes where available, and maker, model, serial number, and part numbers for anything tied to specific equipment.

Can you supply chemicals and hazardous materials?

Chemicals can be supplied with safety data sheets. Packing and delivery follow the terminal's rules for hazardous materials, which we confirm with the port agent.

Do you supply non-OEM alternatives?

Only with written approval from the vessel or the technical office. Where we propose an alternative, we state it clearly on the quotation.

Can technical stores be combined with a provisions order?

Yes. Provisions, stores, and technical items can be quoted together and delivered on the same call, subject to terminal access and timing.

Sending a Technical Requisition?

Upload your list with IMPA, ISSA, or OEM references and we will review it before quoting.
